having had a child treated at GOSH (different clinical specialty, but he's a long-term outpatient who's had a significant inpatient stay at the hospital) none of this remotely surprises me. He/we had some appalling experiences.

37 completed reviews found 22 children suffered harm at the hands of surgeon Yaser Jabbar. 13 were severe. 1 child had a leg amputated, others have permanent deformities & chronic pain. Whistleblowers say managers ignored their pleas for help for years 2/4

Jabbar was a surgeon specialisng in leg lengthening surgery. But the RCS said he was guilty of unprofessional behaviour, serious safety breaches & performing ops without consent. He has now left the UK and is operating in Dubai. 4/4

Centres of excellence get affected by the “centre of excellence” syndrome
It goes:
“We are a centre of excellence, therefore everything we do is excellent”
It follows that clinical audit & self-reflection need to be strong & well done in these centres.
Respect for referring centres be welcome too
