The assisted dying bill is a great start but I don't think it goes far enough. 1- it can't be used for excruciating pain! Pain relief in pallative care can only go to certain levels due to overdose risk, leaving patients in agony! I have personally witnessed an elderly patient who had lockjaw - ThreadSky

In their final days, break their own jar from screaming in agony & there was absolutely nothing we could do to help! She continued to survive for 38hrs after breaking her jaw. Her screams were soul destroying.
Which leads to point 2- Final days. There is no mention of relieving suffering in

The final days. Assisted dying does take place currently, but it isn't humane. Dr's decide that quality of life is over & nothing more can be done. So they remove life maintaining interventions, this isn't always a life support machine, in fact most of the time it's fluids & nutrition & non pain

Relieving medications. This is also done in nursing homes. The patient can survive a further 3days which is the average with no fluids. My gran died this way, it took nearly 3days. My friends mum a type 1 diabetic took a little over a day after the insulin was stopped. But this Bill will not

Help anyone in these circumstances because they're not going to be mentally aware enough to request the end to their life! If you let an animal die this way, you'd be prosecuted! If a Dr can decide to stop life maintaining measures, then they should be able to administer medication to end
