It looks like it was a false alarm yesterday, but our provincial government is committed to removing them from city streets so that suburban car commuters can drive to work without having to deal with cyclists. Totally backward policy, but hopefully nobody dies because of it.

Our city government is a lot more progressive when it comes to cycling, but they're constantly at odds with the more conservative provincial government. We got stuck in the "cars are king" mentality since the 1950s and those folks are still with us and making lots of noise.
