It was essentially loud noise with ambitions, made for the sake of delivering a message in the form of music.
And I love it.
But I've moved past the "Pop punk is a bastardization of the genre" shit.
It's just polished punk

Punk is thrash sans-capability.
But that's splitting hairs for me: It doesn't matter if it was on purpose or accidental. Part of punk music is about hearing something awkward. Something you could make fun of

Pop-Punk is Punk that actively tries to impress upon you the feeling that everyone from Orange County is an annoying douche you should punch.
