Where are the commies in the star wars universe?
I want them to visit an intentional community on Tatooine where they support themselves making tofu and hammocks.
Eh. The EU had its parade of Dark Jedi and Imperial remnants wielding superweapons, too. Plus stinkers like The Crystal Star and Planet of Twilight.I was upset about losing the EU, but they could have justified it by replacing it with something better. Instead, we got worse versions of EU stories.
Star Wars follows the classic fantasy premise that all we need is a true & good king to kick out all the bad guys. So we just need the right warrior monk to take control.
Oh I’m not pro Imperial either - just that the Old Republic (and New Republic) only seem less bad than Palpy’s reign. To be fair - newer SW media acknowledges this.
Old Republic: Yeah you can mostly do what you want. Including owning slaves.
Empire: No more slavery. Also we'll occasionally blow up a planet.
Median citizen: I hate the two party system.
To be fair to the Republic, slavery was, in fact, illegal. But the law couldn't be bothered to show up in backwater places like Tatooine, so the Hutts were in charge. Which makes a pattern you consider, e.g., Naboo. Good intentions, but the Republic just can't be bothered to show up to prove them.

Insanely armed paramilitary force that doesn't answer to anyone and can arrest and imprison with charge or trial seems kinda bad.
