It's one of those things app devs probably just have to focus more on, as recent AMD cards do well in Davinci resolve and NDI screencapture, Plex and Adobe premiere just spend a lot more dev time towards cuda or Intel quicksync

Nice Video!

I think the lack of ECC on the HL4 is down to the APU. The specs say it uses a Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO AX 1.0, which does have ECC-support. But AMD unfortunately doesn't have ECC support on 5000-series non-PRO APUs. You'd have to use a CPU without iGPU or a Ryzen PRO.

I searched for something like that for a while but eventually decided on the CM3588 and went full DIY.

- 5 HDD bays (could fit 6, but no space in the cabinet)
- 3 NVMe slots
- GPIO-controlled HDD power
- 3D-printed case
- Armbian with Btrfs for boot/root

So far no regrets. 😊

For a Homelab I would go DIY for this budged, there are some nice case, like the Jonsbo N-Series that offer lots of flexibility.

The 45D gives serious form over function vibes... having to wrangle this drives in is kinda inexcusable. Don't even want to know how much fun it is to get them back out. Is a crowbar included? ;) Not that the shitty 4U case I currently use is any more practical, but that's my fault.

Both are more expensive than my home build setup with 12 tb drive space.

I used a mini itx case with 5 drive bays grom aliexpress, a SATA for more SATA ports and used the pcie slot for a 10gbps network port.

Added bonus: open media vault has server side reflink copies if you use btrfs.
