Nuclear reactor design certifications, which certify a specific plant design for use in a site specific application, are now valid for 40 years instead of 15. This change avoids some designs from expiring soon, including the AP1000. 🔌💡

The world needs nuclear power. I get so frustrated seeing EVs plugged into a coal or natural gas power plant. Next Gen Nuclear power that uses spent fuel is amazing! I hope we are on the cusp of Fusion power.
Design certifications speeds up the licensing process. If they were to expire that would significantly slow down the review of a new application that uses that design. Most new designs don't have design certifications, but will apply to get one after the first few builds are completed
