Agreed - that’s realistic. However, I worry that there’s a perpetual Sword of Damocles that press, online fans, rage-baiters etc have over him, & more weathervane takes are now endemic, even if we go on a run of 10 league wins + a good run in the Europa once the squad is back to a decent state.

This is the patience we have been asking the club for - and lots of people did predict it would get worse before it got better. (You guys included.)

(If it got to the point where the players manifestly didn’t believe it, fine, but I predict he’d leave at that point anyway.)

Haven’t listened yet as busy at work but that’s broadly where I’m at too, I think it’s actually impossible to judge him on anything football wise at the moment, but if we’re still not playing well once everyone is back then I’ll be more open to being critical.

I’m definitely he gets the rest of the season then review it in the summer. And not just performance on the pitch, the injuries too because they destroyed our season last year too. He’s still a fundamentally decent man though and deserves success.

Totally. Look at yesterday, even ignoring the missing players... they got back from L'pool 2am Friday. Dunno if they travelled to B'ham Saturday or Sunday but that's no time to recover mentally or physically. Knackered, confidence low & 2 mins in the GK does that 🤷‍♀️ Not the time to judge anything.

Regarding Europa, if Sociedad and Galatasaray both win - as they should - would we then play Sociedad because they finished 13th...with United (the higher seed between us) getting Galatasaray who came 14th? Or is it a draw?

Excellent pod. I always appreciate your measured takes. I think Ange should get the rest of the season but agree that if form doesn't pick up when players are back then he probably won't/shouldn't be in charge next season.

I was thinking yesterday that throw-ins are a prime indicator of energy/fatigue levels
Defending, we took our places ok but left villa players free to receive
Taking, we were all close marked and no one could move into space
See that 3 times and you know the team is running through treacle

I'm hoping this break from midweek games helps the players.
Having Solanke back will be important - when that happens. He gives us the extra energy in the press that we are missing currently.
