oh sure :o I've always thought star allies just had the best controls/game feel in the series, even after we got the other switch games. something about it feels the slightest bit snappier, tighter, and generally more responsive to me, like literally everything behaves exactly like I expect it to

SO true, i love how tdx-ksa feels soso much, rtdldx is a good game but god it's abilities do not feel good in comparison, they're so slow and non-cooporative, there's a reason why tdx kpr and ksa are all some of my favorite games of all time

that's another big factor for me, yeah. cutter's charge attack hitting a million times is something I never thought of before ksa, but now it feels wrong when a game *doesn't* have that lol

Tbh i always thought visually it looked kinda ugly. A lot of the effects make the screen look busy and sometimes downright hard to look at. Later Kirby switcn games also have a lot of detail but performance is more consistent and they're way nicer visually.

Idk if I'd call it ugly, but I do wonder why Return to Dream Land Deluxe was able to ship with a beautiful stylized look and a consistent 60FPS yet Star Allies struggles to run at 30

Cuz RTDL is a Wii game and doesn't have nearly as much going on, even with 4 players it's not as if they're spawning all types of particle effects over such highly detailed environments

Like don't get me wrong RTDL is beautiful in its on way bc of that stylization but Star Allies really is just that way bc it's really high quality environments on top of the constant barrage of effects and attacks

Imo it's not really fair to say "oh it's just a Wii game" when it's been built from the ground up for the Switch. The restraint on detail and effects is an intentional artistic decision, not a limitation of the Wii

Fair enough,the main point is about the level of detail Anyways, it's why RTDL runs at 60 but Merry Magoland's hub runs at 30 bc that place just has a fuck ton going on all at once

I get there's a lot of detail in those instances but I don't think it's justified per say. As another example, Kirby Fighter's 2 is able to run at 60 and isn't visually much worse than Star Allies, it just makes me wonder why the trade-off was made in the first place

magolorland hub is 30 fps because it runs at forgotten land engine which is not optimized for 60 fps. hal had optimized 2d engine since 2020 with kirby fighters 2.

i like art-direction (of at least some levels, idk what was going on in the final few story mode ones tbh) but the lighting and shaders bring it down imo.
also this has nothing really to do with how levels themselves look, but some of the texture work is outright disgusting lol.

My main problem is that it's an inconsistent 30 fps. 30 can look great (case and point Forgotten Land), but even outside of boss fights, it stutters ever so slightly sometimes
