The ROG Ally X simply has better compatibility and more power.

The BIG reason to go for the Steam Deck is the price.

But if you can afford it? The Ally X is the king. Now granted, we need a 2025 model with the Z2 Extreme

This is what I'm hoping for. I have an SD OLED and while some people can play with 30fps, I can't. I want to play Cyberpunk and Rdr2 and Avowed, but I can't currently. Even on Low graphics, I just want like 45fps stable for those games so bad. I'm just waiting to see what drops🙏

The X fixed the flaws to the initial ROG Ally, but at a time when MSI just released a new and improved device, and Lenovo just announced a Z2 Device, I'm surprised by the crickets from ASUS

I love screen on the LeGo but personally the removable cons are a downside to me. If the Go S model had a Z2E, it would be my ideal handheld. And I'm weary about Intel drivers with the MSI but I'm keeping tabs on it for sure. I dunno, I guess I'm being too picky lol.

These things aren't cheap so it's good to be picky unless you're actually loaded. I agree, I'm not a fan of the removable joy con wannabes in the Legion GO. But I think the SSD being an odd 2242 was probably the weirdest set back

the deck is much cheaper, and has a lot of aftermarket shell and button replacement.
everything asus makes is terrible besides premium motherboards, and their custumer support is a nightmare.

SD LED. No need to buy the expensive model, which doesn't benefit me personally. What I really like about the SD is that almost all parts are replaceable and can be ordered officially from iFixit so that I can repair it myself and thus extend its service life even after the warranty has expired.

Between the two, have to go with Steam Deck OLED. My current daily driver is the first gen Legion Go dual booted with Bazzite. As much as I loved the Ally X, I had to sell it because no matter how many Etsy comfort grips I purchased, I just couldn’t get a comfortable gaming fit with my larger hands.

Own both and Ally X is just awesome, even just on Windows alone. It's funny how on paper, it didn't seem like much of an upgrade but it really became more than the sum of its minor upgrades to make it such a great machine.

To me, the ergonomics, price, and just ease of use of the Steam Deck make it the best device. Of course, I have a gaming desktop too, so maybe that colors my opinion.

The windows overhead made the Ally a hard pass for me. The games that require Windows, such as Alan Wake II, are ones that I know I wouldn't want to play on a machine like this and need something more performant.

I’m aware you can dual-boot; I tinker enough for my job, I don’t want to do so on a device that’s effectively trying to be a portable console. Just prefer having that versatility out of the box… not sure why that’s a problem to the Deck fans.

The steamdeck’s system is so well implemented, I tried an ROG Legion go and it felt so janky with windows, the thing I didn’t like about the steam deck were the controls, the dpad and face buttons are milimeters away from getting out of the console, I can’t get used to that

I use th Ally X every day as I like the extra battery, power and ability to tweak settings just so. However, every time I pick up the SD, the screen, the ergonomics, the software experience blow me away.

I sold my Steam Deck to get the Ally X and don’t regret it, so I say Ally X. That being said - the ergonomics of the SD are SO much better. Also the loud clacky buttons on the Ally X are annoying, but some keyboard lube helped immensely.

I’ve not tried the Rog Ally X but the steam deck is just so good in terms of value for money. More power would be nice for the odd game but in terms of being out and about and the types of games I play the steam deck is just great.
