I’ve tried something totally new (to me) this semester for comp 2. I collected used cookbooks and each student received one at random. (There was an opportunity to swap). Now the cookbook is the text for the class. 🧵

The second essay is a review of the book. Today we worked on audience analysis. Since each book is unique (and many are old) the students spent time talking with each other and explaining their books to others. 🧵
The third essay will be a process essay where they make a recipe from their book. I spent about a year researching this before I rolled it out. Hope it works! 🍴
The first easy was a narrative—explain a personal food memory (holiday or work or hobby). I read some amazing narratives about cooking with family members and working in food service and more. 🧵
