I am cool with it. Anything bad for tech billionaires is good for me. Democracies will need to regulate technology far more strictly than they have so far, or their citizens will lose their freedom. Apple is full of shit. They're advertising on X again, which is exactly the wrong thing to do.

Encryption means no one can access or steal your data, even the company hosting it. That security feature is having to be removed, because the UK government wanted a backdoor built into the software to spy. It means UK Apple users data is now less protected than anyone else's in the world.

So it's actually very bad. A government tried to enforce spying techniques, and a company has had to remove the security features that keep it's customers safe, meaning the government has only succeeded in making British data less safe than everyone else's.

Apple has refused to build the requested back door. Is instead dropping encryption for all UK users. So, in effect, the UK power move succeeded in weakening privacy only for its own citizens and no one else.

I remember working with a bunch of MOD men who’d moved to corporate cybersecurity. It was awful because they wanted to do surveillance on staff. I mean really illegal hacking attempts, to then get those staff in rooms and present “how hackable you are”. That’s the ethics of folk asking for this bs
