I live in Madison - State St is still definitely pedestrian, but there are a few exceptions for busses and delivery trucks. The mall "experiment" that recently ended stopped all traffic except emergency vehicles on a few blocks of State St.

I grew up and live in Ann Arbor... yes it is expensive... however Ypsilanti home of Eastern Michigan University borders Ann Arbor on the East and is known to be much cheaper than Ann Arbor and have access to Ann Arbor transit and amenities..

Ya rent was insane in A2 prior to the pandemic when I lived there and I'm sure it's worse now. Ypsi is probably a bit more accessible.

Ann Arbor rents are also skewed by the over priced downtown student focused rental market... It has been over a decade since I have rented but much more 'affordable' rental options could be found away from downtown....

I’ve lived in Champaign for a total of about 6 years (longer than I’ve lived in Chicago) and am familiar with rent prices there. I occasionally look too because the cheap rent is so tempting!

I’ve also seen your other videos it ranks highly in!

Also I’ve looked at rent prices for other college towns and was surprised how much more they were. Like Ann Arbor.

Someone who was going to Purdue was also telling me about prices in Lafayette, IN and it seemed more expensive

Yea, it was me. Blaming it on Purdue admitting way too many students in recent years, and both the school and city not building enough student housing

Interesting that Madison counts as affordable when the student housing is anything but - I've got a few friends that go there that each have 1k+ rent for small apartments they share with other people! There's a serious housing shortage near UWM rn :/

Would've made more sense to say UW-Milwaukee. Milwaukee in general is a good college town. UWM, MSOE, Marquette, just to name a few, and the rent is relatively affordable.
