I like to think of it like a tide that raises all ships. Fighting for trans rights is also a fight for everyone's rights--the right to be true to yourself and be who you are.

I think we all lose if we keep quiet on this stuff.

Yes! I’m one of them 😊 Probably because of the progressive cultural environment fostered by dense urban neighborhoods? I also feel less likely to be hate crimed when there’s a lot of foot traffic where I am (altho that doesn’t stop everyone). Also we’re usually nerds.

There’s quite an arc to this where I am in Atlanta. The queer spaces have evolved with the city, but some key spaces didn’t survive the rent increases. Others have cycled through several locations, but we’re still here, and still queer.

Also, check out the world’s only Trans district in SF. It’s in the Tenderloin. There is important history; Compton’s cafeteria predates Stonewall by a few years. Fluid Coffee is trans-owned and had a brick & mortar in the area. I’m sure there’s a story why the district is not in The Castro.
