For 5e, I love this one. It's built like a commercial murder mystery, with each character's motivations and stories, so you can just grab and play. I don't think it's necessarily a murder mystery but the game "Alice Is Missing" is supposed to be great. I guess all the players have to communicate via text only.

Purely interested in a fun murder mystery one-shot, can be accentuated by combat if that's part of it but I don't really care. We do a lot of murder mystery dinner parties and I'm chasing that vibe. My friends are very open to other systems (dnd is just more prolific lol)

In that case, I've never played the Gumshoe system but I've heard really good things about it, and there's a lot of pre-written stuff for it if you don't wanna prep your own. Trail of Cthulhu uses that system and people rave about it.
