It would be scarier to have every zombie (if the media has different types) have a random chance of being one of the gross/scary ones. The overweight girl looks human until you're within biting distance and the smell hits you. The slow moving zombie that looks like all the rest is a spitter. 2/?

You can't mow down swarms of the horde with machine guns, because one of them could randomly explode and suddenly half your team is infected, etc. etc. That would be much better than stereotyping big girls as the grossest.

The most frightening concept for a special zombie type I have ever seen was in a web comic I can't remember the name of.

They were called Mercies, or Mercy, singular.

The concept for a Mercy is a zombie that is slow moving, and makes gentle affection noises instead of the groans and growls you'd expect. They beckon you close, then give you a warm hug and a small, almost painless bite, then simply hold you, making those sweet noises, until you turn or die. 5/?

THAT to me is frightening. An offer of a gentle, sweet escape to the horror of existing in a zombie apocalypse. A friendly face. A soft, warm embrace, like the hug of someone who loves you. Being held close, comforted, as the pain slowly goes away.
