Positive and promising developments. This is already the second article (see also The Verge) on the topic. Finally, there is some progress for people who have no desire to make fascists even richer and give away their data. Thank you to all the tech professionals who are not just selfishly greedy.
As much as I like Bluesky, I was hoping Mastodon would get more traction in the great X-odus. But its detractors are unfortunately correct that there's a bit of a learning curve over there.
The onboarding process has gotten better, which is great, but the initial dumpster fire that ended up being really hurt adoption and perception. I still think the discovery features in the Mastodon network are a bit lacking compared to BlueSky/AT, which also makes it harder to use.
Absolutely, the feeds you can build and subscribe to on Bluesky are really great and I find the main feed more useful than Mastodon's too. I also like how easy it is to subscribe to lists for following and blocking people here. This place is pretty friendly for non technical people.
Making in a non-profit won’t guarantee it won’t be ruined. Setting it up as a corporation with clear bylaws which cannot change without a 60% majority of shareholders would be better. And make a clause to invest profits into spinoffs which can complement and compete with itself.
