Watch Duty has been a lifeline. They are doing amazing work.

We’ve been watching the Watch Duty team do absolutely *unbelievable* technical work all week (they’re members of our Fast Forward open source program), handling a surge of millions of people trying to see where the fires are in real time. There are still people who do such good on the internet.

For now it might be a good idea to discourage anyone who isn't in a fire danger zone from downloading or opening the app it doesn't crash. It's an invaluable resource but it's not run by a big company.

They have been the same for me over the past year with the wildfires in Colorado. I’ve been evacuated once. Hopefully never again.

I'm on east coast but our daughter lives in the valley and teaches in Pasadena. Now I can worry better from afar!!! Seriously, it is super helpful and I don't need to call her and ask!!
