It's a bit weird and there's not many things cases where I can say I outright hate an entire genre but musicals are weirdly niche in particular and I get it. I normally wouldn't want to watch them myself but dunno if I'd say I hate them.
Some of them have amazing cinematography, and great actors doing great work (Moulin Rouge is a great example). I just wish there wasn't so much singing in it.
Yeah, I get the interruption critique. It's kinda funny to think about it from like a story condensation stand point. It's got some nuance. Like imagine if someone was like instead of sending you a paragraph... I WROTE YOU A WHOLE SONG!
I find it weird because there are so many of them, with all different kinds of music and stories. That kind of blanket statement will keep you from seeing something that might make a lasting impression.
Is there a song when you hear it you’re taken back to a memory? Musicals are like that.
It's not about the content. I just hate how a scene will just get interrupted by a musical number. I usually just check out at that point, and wait for people to start talking again.
(as far as music goes, no, not really. I don't have memories attached to music, outside of old girlfriends)

In fact, I’ve got just the song to explain it all!
