the absolute body-slam that is thinking you'll get faster at drawing once you get better at anatomy when in reality you become more picky and even slower lmao π€ͺ

What's with the getting faster ? Does it matter ? Does it make your work better . ? Some of us are naturally faster at sketching ... but don't compare . Just do it !
And sometimes a person has too many ideas to go slow! It's a pain losing steam on something exciting because you're slowly trying to wrap something else up.
Yeahhhhh I usually have to draw an estimate of every single muscle position when the pose is too hard πππ front facing thigh foreshadowing is my nightmare
There is almost a direct relationship between experience and quality, but time spent on drawing seems to be unchanged. The more you expect of your drawing, the less tolerant you are of your old level of quality. In the end, all that increase in speed is consumed by the increased quality expected.
I've been an artist for 25 years, the best learning practice I've ever done is copying paintings. Do copies of artwork you love and keep challenging yourself with harder works, then apply what youve learned to your own work. Stop the academic stuff.
It's the same with learning music. You can spend your time learning all the academic stuff and become a great teacher, or learn only what you need and make a career out of being a musician. Knowledge paralysis is a real thing.
I often fall into the habit of rushing past theory and my work suffers for it. Lately Iβve come back to theory and referencing and though it takes longer, I end up having more fun and feeling prouder of the results.
What I see with artwork is the hardest part is knowing when to stop and say you're finished. There are so many people I know that can destroy their own work by not realizing their work was done hours ago

i get it! but this is also my job and my bills don't care about me taking my time βοΈ
... then you see you need to fix the other eye...
Yeah at first it might feel slower but the end result will look better in less time than it would have without the anatomy foundation to build on
