I’ve been curious about the interaction between CMs and the rest of the org. Some talks I’ve been to discuss community managers as if they’re detached from the rest of a company. I’d be interested in what CMs can request, and what their higher ups can do to help keep them out of the line of fire.

Since talks are often peer-to-peer advice, I can totally see why they would omit company specifics & instead focus on self-reliance as the one sure constant.
Part of it probably is this field being relatively new and always changing; not even job descriptions can decide on common responsibilities and skills.
