This is important to every American. Without the benefit of teaching Americans, we will become illiterate. We will have the government telling us what they want us to know. For example,
we would only know Trump's side of the debacle with President Zelenskyy. Which is a lie. Respect for Ukraine.

The federal dept of education helps ensure the states serve children as intended. W/o it children are more vulnerable to the whims of whatever govt happens to be in charge at the state level. Oversight and accountability and student and teacher rights matter
