My feverish, back-kitchen, "Oh God there are only three of us IN-STORE and there was an after school special tonight" take was that he wandered up to the edges of the town, saw all the decorated phone poles, donned his disguise, and then liked them so he kept them on.

Either they're LED battery lights, or he plugged them into his chest cavity or something. I dunno, it was a wild night and I loved this crack image so much it has to exist. I drew it in the lulls between throngs of customers.

Idk what it is about this piece. Maybe it's the story you told about it, or maybe just that I'm having a weird day--but I keep thinking about it! I had to explain to my partner what Sirenhead was just so that they'd have the context when I showed this to them.

#2: IMO, he doesn't seem evil--at least, not in a way that bears this town / truck stop any ill will. He seems to me more like a fucked up protector spirit, lol. Not sure if that's what you were going for, but it's my read on it!

And the way it happened in my head was, he saw decorated telephone poles, got curious, and then saw a bunch of interesting scurrying so he disguised himself to blend in and get closer. And afterwards he liked the lights, so he kept them for a bit. I like your read on it too.

Thank you! ...I used 1 (1) fancy art pen that I keep on me, and all the highlighters on the cash register. It was the only 24 hour store for an hour in every direction (even when it wasn't a holiday), so we were more busy than you'd think -- especially when the bars closed.

I worked at that specific store for two years, right on the shores of Lake Michigan. I'd always clock out and walk to the lake before heading home, which is probably where the sky came from.
