I agree that the unretouched photos somehow feel more truthful. More real. A flash photo taken on a 70's/80's camera, in an obscure office in early 80's Manchester, shouldn't look that vivid and crisp. It feels wrong.

I’d guess it was just casually applied with one of the newly pervasive “AI” features in everyday apps.
Most users assume if it’s in the application it must be a legit way to use the app.
So it’s especially insidious because they’ve flooded the zone with tools the masses don’t think twice about.
