Same with musicians. “We won’t pay you for the night but it will be great exposure for you.” Don’t know why can’t I buy groceries with “exposure”?

(This is not me having a go at small orgs who can’t afford to pay, by the way, but at big companies who have the budget but refuse to pay out. It’s bad for the industry and it makes writing ever more impossible for those without independent wealth).

Sadly its so many industries. I was a barber in my early 20s. This happened all the time. Went to college for digital film making and 3D animation so now its...... can you build me a website or edit this family photo? Like I've worked on projects for NASA 🤣 it never ends I promise.

I hear you! When people ask if I’d like to chair an event for free (& expect me to pay my own expenses too) they add I can “promote my own thing”, eg my podcast that I make no money from! I wonder how my garage or plumber would react if I asked them to do a professional job for free!
