'The readiness to repudiate identity politics & group them under “bad woke” is less about policy and more about the fact that social justice never really found a home amongst liberals, who were happy to capture its energy but not its demands.'

We were ok with turning a blind eye to it before that in the past in the name of doing good work but not anymore.
It's what happens when you don't have a left. People go far far right.

"64-'65, LBJ signs the Civil & Voting Rights
Acts.
" Scratch a liberal; uncover a racist. "
It still applies. It's harsh, but mostly true.
Obergefell is a court ruling.
I will give you "don't as don't tell".
But none of these is social justice. Eliminating discrimination isn't social justice.
And I can talk all day about how F-ed it is and some of the failures. Semi-self government of the native tribes.
How did you read this gentle condemnation of how political Democrats failed to address the demands of voters and come to believe it was about your failures?
A - joy is not a policy position and is quite patronising
B - Biden was fucking old, she seemed not to notice
C - and this one is really important to me. I don't like genocide suporters
Bravo, Nesrine.
American people won.
This depressing filth is what American people are. No excuses this time.
A bit tangential, but I was active in the labour movement for 30 years. In the last lab leadership contest I was completely unsurprised that the black bloke didn't even make the ballot.
Saying and doing are different things.
Quantity over quality does it everytime.
Frumptard & his paymasters pay well for media time slots.
I live in Australia was looking forward to never hearing about it ever again.
Here we are
Anyone who didn't vote for Harris is just as culpable and deserves zero sympathy or forgiveness. I couldn't give a shit what your excuse is. You helped a facist now, GFYS.
as succintly as I've ever seen it put!
The State killed Malcolm X (& Fred Hampton, & many others) for speaking Truth & demanding a better world.
They spoke mostly of Black oppression, that's what they experienced & understood best; the Establishment does similar to many marginalized groups. ⬇️
No policies, no thoughts.
Voters have a longer memory than given credit for. Just because VP Harris steered clear of woke identity politics doesn't mean people have forgotten... 1/
These politics weren't toxic because they demanded equal rights for all, but because they demanded a uniform moral language and conduct. 2/
A failure to meet the challenge of reforming progressive politics will make their identity politics inevitably foundational.
We're seeing this happening right now and it's devastating. 3/
If we can't offer that new narrative to people, we'll lose the culture war. 4/
The problem lies with the democratic party... It's substructures and ideology mostly.
1. Democratic leaders should emerge from the bottom-up. You can't... 1/
But 1/3rd the population doesn't care, and 1/3rd is fully on board with all of it.
If they had campaigned someone we were interested in instead of "I'm not Trump!" they woulda won.
We Suck Less
This has been the Dem platform for this century
The GOPux has an engaging narrative
Policy is so boring
We would rather critique their narrative than talk about policy :D
We want fundamental reforms, and we're not getting them.
That's why 1/3rd don't give a crap about any of this.
If you really want to change things, you have to do better.
Volts: 20 years ago, @thestranger.com.web.brid.gy published a piece in the wake of GW Bush's 2004 reelection: "The Urban Archipelago." I talk with then-editor @dansavage.bsky.social about the politics of cities in a time of reactionary backlash. https://www.volts.wtf/p/dan-savage-on-blue-america-in-the
aggressive rightwing culture-war messaging is capitulated to because, to borrow from Yeats, liberals lack “all conviction, while the worst/ Are full of passionate intensity”. -N. Malik
You can vote for more than just two right wingers you know. In fact, if you're in a stronghold during a presidential election you're better off giving the turnout rate statistic to someone who you actually agree with, then just follow a DSA guide down ballot.
The real problem was social media manipulation (foreign and domestic), and "left-wing media" completely sanewashing Trump while holding Biden/Kamala to vastly higher standards.
@morningjoe-msnbc.bsky.social
@theyoungturks.bsky.social
@nytimes.com
@nbcnews.com
There you go, there's a few of them that sanewashed the fuck out of Trump. Some of them even cheered him and his followers on, like The Young Turks.
The rest are painfully centrist, which is exactly the reason they have that double standard.
I don't talk to Republicans. If I have a conversation with someone, they already know that Trump is evil. There is no duty to praise a Democrat for not being fascist in every sentence.
