I don’t think it’s naive. He’s acknowledged that it’s difficult to build connections between players whilst rotating, but rotation is necessary to avoid injuries. This fan base should know better than most how devastating it can be to run players into the ground, as all previous managers have done.
I completely disagree that rotation is necessary to avoid injuries. You can play your best 11 game in game out in the league. Rest a few in the cups. If an individual needs a rest fair enough but you can chop and change the way he has and expect to win games. It just doesn't happen in the PL
ETH ran these players into the ground and caused a huge injury crisis. I imagine the rotation will lessen once we are out of this congested winter schedule, but that’s the reality of the modern game. Rotation now will save us from completely falling apart in the spring like we do every season.
I think he has been naive for lots of reasons. Thinking he can rotate constantly(Salah has played every game in the league majority 90mins). Thinking Eriksen and Casemiro can play together effectively. Thinking he can play his system without wingbacks without a left back even.
That’s part of why Salah is an all-time great, Bruno too, and we’re lucky to have him, but most are not like those two. I agree Case/Eriksen shouldn’t have started, but Ruben had no options other than Mainoo, who isn’t fit, or an academy kid, who would’ve been trampled by that Newcastle midfield.
It’s not rotation, it’s chaos.
It’s not a stretch of the imagination to say at the current rate, with Ipswich playing better and better, we’re in danger of being the 3rd relegation candidate.
