Yeah, but the top 1% globally includes 20% of USA. Just to have some perspective on that.

No, the 80th percentile of wealth in the US is $149,100.
To be wealthier than 99% of the world, you need a whole $4.76 million, which only includes 2% of Americans.

Yeah, I was talking income, which is a better measurement IMO, as wealth is often not real.
If we look at wealth, the global top 1% has around $1.1M, which includes at least 15% of the US.
The world is a lot poorer than us westerners tend to think.

You really can’t compare wealth like that though… the same house, land, monthly food costs, etc. all would be different in different parts of the world.

Yeah, it's a complex issue. And yet another reason income is better, where you can adjust for PPP.

I ncome is skewed at the top. Do we count lines of credit off leveraged securities?

Kind of, but the ultra wealthy don’t technically draw income in the same way. They just borrow indefinitely.

The best way to compare wealth is on Dollar Street.

The top 20% includes every household earning at least $149k.
That's like, if two firefighters got married you would see them decapitated?
Besides, their math is wrong. We only have to guillotine the top 2% of Americans to take out the top 1% globally.
