I am not sure but in Buffalo in 2021 the incumbent lost a primary and ran a write-in campaign. IIRC correctly the party largely supported the incumbent or at least abandonded India Walton who was formally their nominee. Harder to pull off in a city of this size but party machines don't die quietly

With all the talk and rightfully so of all these old fucking Boomers in office , Cuomo should be set out to pasture. I say this as an old Boomer , we need to step outside.
