*I do not say point 3 to flatten his work or disregard the large breadth of content of his work, but to illustrate that no one would argue he doesnt have a number of repeated archetypes and some very consistent themes and interests he returns to. Rather than being boring or repetitive this-

interestingly allows him to deepen and continually re explore these themes. The same ideologies many years apart, reexamine through different lenses, in different contexts. There is so much focus in art on originality and breaking molds that we sometimes miss out on the value of iteration

If anything, I think that Miyazaki's specifity and focus, are one of the things that make his work SO impactful and his body of work as a WHOLE, interesting. There's such a clear and obvious sense of perspective and personalness to his films, and that's something people connect to.

I think it's really valuable, actually to revisit the same ideas and characters more than once. I think that you see that pattern in MANY of the great storytellers of our time. And I often see it lobbied as a criticize or a caveat, which I whole heartedly disagree with. It's intrinsic to the value.

I feel you- it's incredibly easy to get disheartened when it feels like so many notable people achieve great success in their 20s. But creativity is ageless, and statistically, our vocabulary and language skills peak well into our 60s and 70s!! Art of all kinds is a lifelong journey.
