Looking at the picture I noticed there's a book tucked in between Laotzi and Hugo Pratt. This different angle gives us Derrida of all people. I've added another Corto Maltese BD of old stories I picked up in France that's not in the original shelfie. Yes, Manara is very good but not as deep I think.
So many layers in Hugo Pratt's work: politics, mysticism, kabbalah, tarot, voudon... There is an excellent and beautiful full length movie of a Corto Maltese story, as well as at least four DVDs from French television. I used to have more of the books, some in colour. No idea where they are now.
This book is the catalogue of a huge exhibition of his work - watercolours etc - that I got to see in Siena 2005. First came in contact with Corto Maltese while living in Rome 1982-83 in a fumetti magazine with his name for the title.
There is a statue of Corto Maltese in one of the lakeside vineyard villages very near me, I've never known why...but it turns out Pratt lived the last 11 yrs of his life here. There is even a winemaker "en homage à" https://caveaucorto.ch/concept/
I checked out the website and found the photo with the statue of Corto. Interesting to see his image engraved on their wine glasses. I guess they're big aficionados.
