What? The people of the US have told those in or running for office that they want criminals and those that look after themselves, both criminally and financially! If I have a complaint about Joe's actions I want to know what massive grift scheme he is going to run to make a shit load on the way out!
Really? The public elected a rapist who already abused the pardon power the first time and has told us he will pardon all the Jan 6 participants on the first day. Throwing Hunter to the wolves changes this how?
sorry, meant what-about, not what-if! it's hard for me to see how this is going to affect public perception of the pardon power given that Trump was already going to do whatever he wanted and that Fox et al were already going to invent some justification for it
That Fox will always invent a Trump defense does not mean that every such defense will be equally persuasive to the vast majority of Americans who don’t watch Fox.
of course not, but once trump repeats it enough times it becomes something that the mainstream press will end up reporting as "mr. trump insists..." and then it's done
i think the average person who might not be immersed in fox news now thinks that they both do this kind of thing, so the next frontier of pardon power abuse moves into the overton window.
eh. I don't doubt it will be used this way by the GOP. but trump's existing abuses of the pardon power are so far beyond what this represents that it's hard for me to read that as anything more than grasping at straws, which they were already going to do

as u know pardon power is quasi-royal residue, existing outside most of our democratic constitutional republic's checks, balances, + separated powers
fwiw I didn't even mind Ford's pardon, Nixon had already bowed out
We need to stop the “holier than thou” mantra.
