Say it with me: FAIR USE WAS ESTABLISHED AS A METHOD TO ALLOW AND SUPPORT EXCHANGE OF IDEAS BETWEEN HUMAN BEINGS.

It's not about "data processing" but it comes from ideas like human dignity.

@[email protected] Also, "fair use" means "you are allowed to quote relevant passages from a copyrighted work, with proper attribution", not "you can slurp down entire _libraries_ to generate synthetic slop from, and the copyright holders have no recourse".

@tante copyright was established as a band-aid on capitalism and never had anything to do with dignity but with "social wealth", fair use was a band-aid on copyright because copyright caused it's own issues and still does.

We knew this was coming, just artists didn't accept it until it crossed […]
