The chart on the left coming from this Toronto Star article, saying the cost of a brand new condo in Toronto is $609,000. Government housing, with no sales fees, land cost, or DCs, would cost half of that.

And realistically there is no magic number on how many units we need the government to build to properly serve all the Torontonians in need of affordable housing. But if we have $3B to blow on a random Tuesday, we have $3B for housing.

what's the 5,000 number? and I don't think you can cross out land costs entirely — even if it's all government owned land, there's still the opportunity cost of using it for housing vs something else

Also I don't think that the federal government is putting opportunity cost as a line item when they're developing a parking lot, old storage facility, brownfield, etc
