Oh thanks for this. My worry is so many evidence based parenting programmes are ‘attached’ to this theory and show impact…I’m conflicted

Yes that's true. Then we see research from various ethnic groups saying 'the system doesn't work for us' they feel distrust and excluded. We need to be open to challenging our own perceptions of good parenting and listen and learn, instead we often label these families as unwilling to engage.

I’m also wondering if there has to be a middle way - using some common elements from what we know works alongside cultural understanding -and maybe evaluating the impact/outcomes. Feel like we could/should have a whole conference on this.

I have started this with the children's sector apprentices I teach. Attachment varies across cultures, as it does with those with neuro disabilities. Whilst it has in place, far too much emphasis is given through a western nuclear family lens.

Oh interesting- do you know if this is part of wider SW edu circular? Also I imagine it then becomes challenging if once qualified assessment tools lean heavily on such Theories

No it's not as far as I know. We have a decolonising the curriculum, social justice framework, so it was natural to think about attachment through this lens. Unfortunately I think putting into practice will be challenging, but awareness is the start.

Definitely serious. Human development theories have a long way to go and are not much removed from White middle/upper class research at schools like Harvard and Princeton.
