Pink Floyd's 1975 concert at Ivor Wynn Stadium in Hamilton was epic, and included a giant pig balloon from their Animals album floating over the city. I was among the 50,000 in attendance.

The CBC - and everybody else - has played a large part in manufacturing the tulip mania about this tour. I'm sure papers will be written for generations about how and why it became such a bizarre phenomenon. She's young. She'll tour many more times. Why the insane hysteria?!? I just don't get it.

Massive cultural, economic and traffic impacts. Anything that large is news. Assuming Beatlemania probably dominated the news cycle back in the day too.

Yeah - I get the impacts. As a former journalist (including time at Mother Corp), I still get like there's been some "chicken or egg" to the volume of coverage/hype.

I'm (barely) remember Beatlemania. My mom was in her late 20s and very much a part of it. We had so much paraphernalia!!!

It certainly wasn't my scene, but I recall the frenzy when Madonna almost got arrested at Skydome during her run of three shows there. 1990? We were down by the stadium that week, for some reason, and it was quite a scene!
