In 1954, activists Carl and Anne Braden helped an African-American couple, Andrew and Charlotte Wade, buy a home in an all-white Louisville neighborhood, facing violent backlash. Carl was charged with sedition and sentenced to 15 years in prison, serving only eight months. 👍
Technically he was charged with and convicted of sedition. This was at the height of the red scare and McCarthyism, and he was accused of trying to enact a communist plot by inciting a race war.
