Lawmaker Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke ripped up a copy of an anti-indigenous bill in New Zealand's Parliament before starting a haka, and was soon joined by other indigenous lawmakers and protesters.

She made the point and found such support, both on the for and in the gallery. Let's hear it for the youth how are stepping up to change the world in a positive way.
This is EXACTLY what the Haka is used for! Resistance. Their Queen has joined the march to protest the bill. This is epic and by the way, Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke is the youngest MP in Parliament! ✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻
I don't fully understand the meaning of her actions (Im not well verser in indigenous practices), but I know a power move when I see one. Girl, rock on.
Awesome!! I'm also indigenous here.

The founding document of New Zealand is the Treaty of Waitangi, signed by the Crown and tribal leaders in 1840. It promises protection, partnership & participation to the Māori people. Over decades, laws and judicial decisions have tried to put these principles into place. Bill says 'all equal'
But of course, everyone has same human rights, so bill is misleading. It is an attempt to remove progress, especially since 1974 and the Waitangi Tribunal, which looked at past injustices to the different iwi (tribes) and created settlements $ and apologies.

Love it.
It wasn't an obligatory and routine performance before a rugby match. This was real anger and authentic intent.
