I’ll say that while TikTok has its highlights I don’t really like what it does to my brain. Doesn’t justify a ban of course, but I also don’t blame you for your dislike of it

Yeah this but the brains of the young people around me. But that doesn't mean it doesn't also have value, and if nothing else it is very important to just an unimaginable number of people in this country who are about to lose something they really love
I think it's important to try and figure out how it's algorithm is trying to work you out. Provide it with info through your actions to give it what your brain needs, actively use the "not interested" button whenever someone is trying to make you angry, or whatever it is you do/don't want out of it
I’m not talking about ragebait (though that is a problem) so much as how it wrecks my attention span and strengthens the dopamine addiction in my already ADHD addled brain.
Not that I'm arguing with you here, I just think there's a vast depth that you don't see unless you stumble on it or actively search it out that make it easy to dismiss it as a platform not worth anyone's time or is actively damaging to an individual or society, although it obviously can be
I don’t disagree, it’s why I’m on there. It shouldn’t have to be that way though, it’s like saying „a windows PC can be good if you uninstall all the adware, change all the settings, and do a few registry edits to make it respect your privacy”. Most won’t bother, defaults are king
That's what I mean as well. I'd say half the videos I watch are 3+ minutes and the other half are dumb. I spend a good chunk of my time watching people deep dive into the methodology of various studies in bite-sized chunks that I find very compatible with my own attention problems
