If you don't mind me asking and I think this really helps people to understand, how much profit did you make from every sale of your book? Whether it was physical or ebook?

I made about $1 a book (it was through an indie publisher, so I made very little.) Of course, anyone who pirates was never going to buy the book anyway but it still gutted me. $40,000 would’ve been life changing for me and my kid.
I totally understand. That's a year's worth of salary. $1 is pretty low even for an indie. I remember when digital books were all the rage and most of the companies I bought from did like a 50/50 or 40% share with their authors. Hope you are in a better place financially now.
I went indie in 2012 and self-pub because those publishers did little to nothing for the 60% they took. I still only make ~$2-3 an ebook… and have to pay for the editing and cover art/book art myself but it’s better than where I was.
Right? Each illegal dl is like a knife to the back. We end up bleeding out. I know authors who have stopped publishing because they were being pirated more than what they sold and it broke them. This is why I commission art for some my books. Artists fuel my muse. I can’t let y’all quit.
