We win when not one, not two, but 10 or 20 people see this and rush in to surround and protect the vulnerable. In numbers, we win. Make them feel the bile of fear rise in their own throats for once.
So you want a riot? TBH I can't wait dor the 2025 summer season of USA. It's gonna be interesting to watch. I think it's going to be like 2020 for the next 5 years.
As a Brit I feel like the US government should put a limit on the number and scope of executive orders the pres can issue, I think Trump is doing a lot of his governing this way because it's quicker & doesn't require congress 2 approve things, so take that power away from him or at least limit it.
Of course private citizens should stand up against this bullshit, but the Democratic Party and the GOP need to do a hell of a lot better. They should remember that not everyone supports Trump and the people who voted against him still deserve representation.
Of course that may require a new law which would need the support of at least some Republicans.
Also the Democrats need to do more to resist Trump. Don't just rely on the American people because a lot of them are either afraid to act or don't care.
Do your job Democrats (& GOP mods). Be better.
It's pretty simple. Fascism is like a fire. It will consume everything. No, you can't just sit there on the sideline doing nothing. You have to stamp out the fire with whatever you have available to you. Sorry, the fire department is away for the next 22 months (AT BEST if not forever).
Great writing, inducing sympathy and rage as well as fear. Fear of seeing whatβs next in this administration, fear of ineffectual responsive action from both sides of the political divide, and fear of my own ability to effect change.
The sad thing is I think, decades of Pop culture have trained us to think that if you see people acting officially detaining somebody on the street the best thing you can do is just let them do it. You are absolutely within your rights to at least try to ask some questions.
This is why they try to act quickly, grab someone and throw them in a car and leave. They don't want to answer questions, they don't want people taking pictures, they don't want people getting their names or badges.
Refuse to assist, record everything, try to identify everyone involved, get license plates, get badge numbers, and get those to lawyers working to protect people. If you're more bold, stand in the way, scream for help, draw attention to what is happening. Don't fight physically, they want that.
As far as I'm concerned, if you're not in a uniform you're not a cop. I'll step in and delay until the uniformed officers arrive and check credentials. Do not obey in advance. Do not recognize authority. That's what I'm going to do.
want to say I wil step in but I know myself too well for that, those are big dudes and probably armed, I would probably freeze and forever feel guilty about it.
I also find concerning that ICE officers aren't refusing these illegal arrest
They aren't "probably armed" they are absolutely armed. We are not going to win getting in a fight with ICE. We are going to win when there's a video of them punching an unarmed person who was just asking what's going on and requesting to see a badge. Media making ICE actions the story is a win.
Personally Iβve been asking elected Democrats to physically go looking for the disappeared people. As far as Iβm aware, we donβt even know where some of these people are.
I think Congressional Dems should do fact finding missions, go out into the world and look.
