Linux friends, what distro are we using these days? Genuinely curious to give Linux another go but once again fell into endless pages of articles on hot new distros.

Since you're a developer, you should check out Aurora DX - it's an immutable distro with developer essentials bundled OOTB. Updates are also atomic, so they either apply or don't—there's no partial/failed state which can break your OS. And you can even easily rollback right from the boot menu!

On the opposite corner aspiring to the throne CachyOS.
So far Fedora has demonstrated to be more convenient, and CachyOS will have to deliver on it's promises of better performance to win it's place.
