I can’t tell if you are making a joke? Have you listened to all of it? It is in both French and English and nobody makes Quebec do anything. Respecting their language rights is kinda a big thing. But they often sing it all in French.
I was being serious, but perhaps I worded it poorly. I meant when performing it before a sporting event, what language does *the singer* (not the crowd) use, if not both. It’s *because* I know Canada is officially (and actively) bilingual that I wondered.
It was an earnest question, not an insult.
Oh I didn’t take it as an insult I just couldn’t tell if it was a joke. I mean they do sing it in both languages at sporting events. But seriously Quebec is the reason that America will give up and go home if you actually invade.
Ha! I won’t be the one invading, I promise! I’m more likely to be one of the Americans begging y’all to let me be Canadian, not trying to force y’all to be Americans!
There is a non zero chance your military gets ordered to attempt to take the pipeline or the highway to Alaska or some nonsense. Think Crimea 2014. We are a little touchy about this you might have noticed.
More "fun facts" sometimes it may also be performed in an Indigenous language at sporting (or other) events! Because while we're officially bilingual, there are lots of languages that existed on the land before English and French :)
Oh yeah! There was a video that went around recently that was a bunch of languages. I couldn't say which ones, the obvious and I wanna say Ukranian and German were in there?
And Korean too! It was cool. You could hear the base tune but everyone was singing it with pride. The official version is in both official languages which many non Canadians seem unaware of.
