Absolutely, let's be friends! Us free thinking, willing to read, learn, expand and grow are about to be the only way anyone makes it out of this giant mess.
I absolutely love mine. Itβs what I use to download audiobooks via Hoopla. I have a hard time reading print books after Covid. I just canβt concentrate long enough to read. I donβt have a difficult time listening to books, however π
My county opened the first library when I was about 5. We lived 25 miles away. I threw a fit until she gave in and took me to get a library card. She didn't see it as needful. And complained that driving 25 miles was too taxing. Right up until I pointed out that she worked there 5 days a week.
I love my library card. Ngl, I mostly use it for digital downloads. I don't have transportation due to health reasons so it's an absolute godsend. For anyone in Ohio it's the Ohio digital library and its attached to your library card.
Hi Luna! I have a card from my local library system and since I live in NY, one from NYPL. Their collection on Libby is much larger than my small systemβs
When my daughter was young, we would travel to different libraries in my state. Sometimes the drive would be over an hour just to explore a new library. I also tried collecting a library card from every library or library chain I visited.
One of the reasons I fell in love with this home we are in now, is that it's master bedroom.. the built in bedframe is flanked by wall length book shelves. It's the upper floor of a dome so.. lots and lots of bookshelves!
I worked at a job that required moving frequently, one of if not the first things I did after each move was visit the local library and get my cardπ Shout out to my grade school teacher Mrs Keesee for showing me the joy of readingπ
I had 3 library cards. I usually have 3 books going at the same timeπ€ I love listening to audiobooks when I go for my walks, cooking and cleaning house.
The librarians at my local have started calling me by my first name. Theyβve never asked me my name and I can only think that itβs from writing out slips for when I collect reservations.
Every Saturday, starting in the fifth grade, my mom dropped me off at our library. It took an hour or so to choose 7 books for the following week. Eventually the librarians put me to work.
The American library system is something to be proud of. Without public libraries, I donβt think I would have gone to college. Along with outstanding teachers, libraries helped me learn to love learning. Now I serve on my townβs library board.
Donated over 200 books n will soon have 200 moreβSHARING THE WEALTH OF READING! My kids do the same- an uneducated public is the downfall of Democracy!
My favorite card is the one that tells my blood type. O negative. I consider it to be my credentials if anyone ever accuses me of going ape shit. Hello, no rhesus factor, no monkey blood. It would be nearly impossible for me to go ape shit! I go bat shit instead!
I use mine all the time. The librarians know my name lol. I got my mom her first library card at age 91, and we order her large print books and she reads all the time now β€οΈ
I have my library cards linked to the free Libby app. You can borrow any book in your library electronically and read it on your iPad and make the type BIG. Also you can download free audiobooks
I actually have an IT appointment in two weeks at the library (another FREE service they provide!) to figure out how to get books through Libby. I have figured out how to get them from Amazon on my Kindle for traveling, but could not for the life of me figure out Libby. But I will!
Hmmmm. The Libby App has a field where you just add your library card # and voila! But great that the IT folks will help. Try the library Hoopla app. Maybe better luck?
My mom is the same age and she loves to read ebooks from the library because you can make the type the size you want and if you fall asleep it remembers your place.
πβΊοΈ I just was saying this too. I access my library via the free Libby app. I love making type on the books on my iPad BIG and with great contrast. Audiobooks too.
That's lovely. I tried to get my mom to try large print or e-readers, but she wouldn't. By her '90s she'd given up the pleasure of reading, though she taught me to read by reading to me.
AND you can use your library card to rent movies for FREE on Hoopla or Kanopy - each library is different so call yours and find out. Hereβs an 2024 Emmy winning documentary I recently watched ππ
Yes, I am a retired middle school librarian. At this grade level, librarians are critical bc students at this age believe everything on the Internet is true.
It reminds me of Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society in that I want to be friends with some of the characters (NOT Lula Dean though, youβll see why)
Love my local library system. They even check out video games and my local branch hosts monthly community game nights!
Seriously, even if youβre not much of a reader, just visit your local branch and see whatβs going on. Itβs an incredible place for community engagement.
We have a community library run by volunteers as the council has closed most of the libraries. It has a great coffee shop and thereβs no membership, just turn up, take some books and try to remember to return them.
Iβve donated the books Iβve written and help run a free IT clinic twice a month.
In this historical moment, libraries, books, culture, and knowledge are the best antidote to the black wave of ignorance that is crashing down upon us.
I got my first library card when I was 7 or so.
I LOVE to read- always have.
The first time I went to check out books after they explained to me how the card worked, my first question was "how MANY books can I check out?"
There was no limit.
I filled a grocery bag with books.
Yes I read them all.

I visit the library twice every week! Itβs a wonderful place - a busy library with lots of programs. It also has a patio area with comfy chairs so we can sit outside (on nice days!) and watch the Chesapeake Bay!
Just off to the library. Luckily we still have one although all but a couple of staff are unpaid volunteers. Itβs a great community hub with lots going on. I hope our small town of 6000 knows how lucky it is.
I was gifted with a lifetime library card in my local community for leading our library renovation and expansion effort. To this day, still one of my fave all time gifts.
I've had a Library card since I was a child no matter where I have lived. It is a part of me and still go to the library once a week. I would be lost without it.
You can borrow them from the library using Libby. You can also use Kanopy for movies or Hoopla which has both. Once you get the library card you can do this all from home. Check out your library's web page. There are plenty of resources they could have besides the printed word.
Sorry about the jargon. You've got this. Ask a librarian. They'll help you to get more audible books for free. Just let them know that's what you want. A library card is all you need. Call to see what you need as proof of residence for the card before you go. Enjoy learning for free.
The first time around, Trump spent 4 years trying to de-fund public libraries. Become a card-carrying member of your local library. And use it. The best resistance against the DC clown show.
My library card is one of my most treasured possessions. Libraries are rooms of infinite possibilities π
The library was the only place I queued for after NZ came out of Covid lockdown.
I volunteer at our local library too as it's community run - my next shift is on Wednesday π
Just got back from my library! Able to print something FOR FREE to look over margins. Able to sit in a study room with a friend where we can both quietly concentrate, yet chat a bit when we like. Able to ask a librarian for knowledgeable adviceβ¦and then not take it. π€£ I LOVE LIBRARIES π₯°
i've got enough library cards they quit issuing to me "i know you'll bring it back"
i spent a decade going from county seat to county seat from TX to MI. often the library was the best entertainment. the best one was southport isl ME
Ever since elementary school I've always had library cards everywhere I've lived. I can't imagine what my life would be like if it hadn't been for libraries and the wonderful librarians who work there
I love my neighborhood library, itβs a cosy place. If they donβt have the book Iβm looking for, theyβll request it from another library or theyβll buy it!
I cherish mine! And because I'm in Pima county, Arizona, the actual card has a picture of a bobcat on it and that is the coolest library card I've ever had!
I have had one in every place I have lived in since I'm a child and I'm much older now ππ I will be moving soon and I have already found my local library πβ₯οΈ
Hello friend! I would be a complete mental mess without my library card. Not to mention, in financial distress from buying too many books! πβ€οΈπ¦

Good Morning π
By my 20s when I'm commuting on public trans to work I was averaging 3 books/wk.
You can't argue with results: literate kids stay literate, comparatively. Reading + logic + empathy.
My oldest taught himself to read from the closed captioning on the TV and PBS Sesame Street
I could live there.
Libraries are great!
Libraries are awesome
We use our health insurance cards (which everyone has) at the library also.

A chill, fun place where the staff are fantastic and can find or source pretty much anything.
Knowledge is power, so I forego the library card, sorry
