Seems like Vrabel is the overwhelming favorite there, and I think insiders know their chances pretty well going in. Interviews aren’t just personality tests, you have to come with in-depth knowledge of the team/schemes and a plan to change things. Why waste the effort with realer jobs available?

Because he believes he might actually get the Jets job. It's apparent to most everyone in the NFL that the Patriots are waiting for Vrabel, unless Johnson blows them away.

I think Vrabel and Johnson are 1A and 1B, hard to say how much Johnson and Glenn have discussed their interest in various teams but if he figures he is #4 or #5 on the Pats list and maybe that's where they are in his, the decision makes sense.

Schefter and other insiders have already leaked that most NFL people believe this is the case. They're reporting that because that's what their sources are telling them. I'd imagine Glenn also knows many of the same people, and I don't think he wants to waste time on a job he has no chance to get.
