Hands up if academia now bears no resemblance to when you first started your career. I’m still really passionate about research, training, and education, but I’m all outta love for the culture of the sector as it currently is.

But so far since being a victim of our cuts I'm getting more flexibility to do all the things I loved about academia (plus the better pay) out in industry now.
IMO, over the past 20 years I’ve seen pseudo business creep in. Commercialising and monetising knowledge while simultaneously devaluing the voice of the expert. The most insidious part for me is the current model of academic publishing. Research strategy only really covering STEM, and student fees
