It's a good question. I'd guess that it's because it should be obvious to anyone who actually practices what virtue looks like, but as we've seen constantly, you can't expect much. That and with living and letting live, you don't fight and hope people will look for the truth, but, you know.

My question is how did it become so prevalent in so many Christians? Did it start with things like Bible Study groups? Certain Christian churches? Certain parts of the country? Bringing political positions into churches? Is it coming from outside the church or within the church?

In 2017 when I went to an Evangelical church, the paster was great and preached the Bible. The attendees sucked. All they wanted to do was talk about and pray for Trump.
