Like for all you can say about how cyberpunk flies over the heads of the nerd audience, the use of actual practical means to stick it to the man is a part that resonates
Maybe this is just like my being weirded out when I started to work for a software company and found an awful lot of people who didn't have any passing familiarity with the history of software on popular platforms, even compared to what I would expect by accident
It feels like something that would be the result of a fundamental lack of curiosity or something, some kind of goal focus pathology that is actually preventing people from learning very much
For a long time I thought this sort of discussion and the parallel conversation about cyberpunk pointed to the need for a political awakening (at least a more substantial one than just joining a single issue special interest); but now I'm not so sure there isn't something more basic going on
