I'm fully in the "good game =/= game you enjoyed" camp. I enjoyed many aspects of Final Fantasy XV, but I wouldn't call it a "good game", same for Watch Dogs 2, or TCG Card Shop Simulator ( / other hastily thrown together work sim games)

100% this. To continue OP's food analogy, just because I like boxed mac & cheese doesn't mean Gordon Ramsay would be wrong in saying it's disgusting compared to his Beef Wellington. I'd say it's a sign of maturity to acknowledge bad qualities in things you like & good ones in things you don't.

The thing with art is that enjoyment depends on what you're looking for. Someone who likes story-driven games won't like a game with a bad story, but someone who focuses more on gameplay won't care. It's all about knowing yourself and whether a particular game has what you're interested in.

City Crisis got really low review scores, but I loved that game! Flying around in rescue helicopters, saving people from high rise fires, it was awesome!

A game I’ve enjoyed is Generation Zero. Love that the dialogue is in Swedish. After a time, I saw reviews that it was only fairly received, if that. I’m still enjoying it!
And I still like Fallout 4!
