Coming face-to-face with a grizzly while out hiking on a mountain trail is pretty unnerving, but it makes for a fun painting, so I’m not complaining. “Trailblazer,” 30”x24”, oil on linen.

In the cases where I’ve come across a bear on the same trail as me, I’ve always been lucky in that I’ve never surprised a bear. I just quietly and carefully move off the trail and away from the bear if the bear didn’t do it first.
That's pretty scary, we have black bear but honestly they are usually too busy dumpster diving to bother people on the trail. I have run into bison sitting on the trail at antelope island, and it was similar - did my best to not disturb as I carefully found another path.
